Father of Mae Whitman’s Baby Revealed 6 Months After Welcoming Son
Carlos Valdes is loving the perks of being a new dad.
Six months after The Flash alum and Mae Whitman welcomed their first baby, Miles, he reflected on balancing fatherhood while starring in Broadway’s Hadestown.
“Not a lot of people know this, but I’m a dad, a relatively new dad,” Carlos told People in an interview published March 3. “It’s my personal preference that I don’t share more beyond that, but being a Broadway dad… let me tell you, it’s not for the faint of heart!”
As the actor put it, “This life is pretty unforgiving when it comes to balancing it with parenting.”
Although it’s hard work being on stage multiple times a week, Carlos revealed that being a dad inspired his starring role as Orpheus.
The 35-year-old added, “I’ve really put a lot of my own personal experience as a dad, and as a fan of my child, into Orpheus’ own naiveté of looking at the world.”
While Mae announced that she had given birth in August on Instagram, fans only recently learned Carlos—who played Mae’s love interest in the series Up Here—was the father after her Parenthood costar Lauren Graham shared insight into their life.
“They’re in New York now,” the Gilmore Girls alum explained on the March 10 episode of Dax Shephard‘s Armchair Expert podcast. “Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway in Hadestown, which I feel happy to plug because he’s fantastic in it, Carlos Valdes.”
Although the Perks of Being a Wallflower actress is currently living in the Big Apple, she and Carlos won’t be sticking around permanently, according to Lauren. In fact, Mae had gotten a job in Ireland, where she’s staying with baby Miles.

Despite Mae keeping the identity of her baby’s father private, she did share insight into her little one while announcing his birth this summer.
“From the moment we heard the first tiny sound out of his tiny piggy mouth, we were besotted,” she wrote on Instagram in August. “He is the kindest, gentlest, smartest, funniest little beebee and he’s our best friend.”
She even revealed that their son was named after her Parenthood costar Miles Heizer, who played her younger brother on the sitcom.
“We are infinitely grateful he chose us as his parents,” she continued. “We love you! We’re so happy!”
