Xbox Reportedly Been ‘In Talks’ Over Putting Steam On Next Console

There’s been a lot of discussion over the past few months about whether the idea of Steam being included as part of the next Xbox console could happen or not – but apparently it’s something that Microsoft has been in talks over.

In a report on Windows Central today, editor Jez Corden has advised that not only Steam, but other “PC storefront owners” have been in discussion with Microsoft about having a presence on Xbox consoles going forward.

“For my part, I can say that Xbox has been in talks with PC storefront owners, including Steam’s Valve, about what exactly that might look like. There have been other rumors that full integration is even in testing, although I’d take that with a pinch of salt for now.”

As you can see, Jez stops short of suggesting this idea has been tested, but nevertheless seems pretty confident that it’s at least been brought up between Microsoft and various other companies.

He does, however, question why Microsoft would want to do this in the first place, pointing out that the Xbox Store would surely suffer as a result. There are a lot of “unanswered questions” right now, as he puts it.

It’s going to be a while until we see what happens, but this is definitely interesting! 2027 seems to be the target for the next Xbox console and first-party handheld, so watch this space – the next generation could look very different indeed.
