Pop singer-songwriter Mimika unveils her latest single, “Elevator,” a song capturing the feeling of that moment in Transformers when Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky says, “Fifty years from now, when you’re looking back at your life, don’t you want to be able to say you had the guts to get in the car?”
Produced by Mimika and collaborator Tim Bongiovanni, “Elevator” is one of those songs that pulses with devil-may-care energy and the exhilarating sensation of being alive.
A talented pianist, guitarist, and flutist, while growing up Mimika used the stories she wrote as a means of escapism. Then she would sit at the piano and, like Rumpelstiltskin, spin her stories into melodies.
After losing a loved one, music became both a form of escapism and a refuge. Later, music developed into Mimika’s invitation to others to be “seen, heard, and a little braver.”
Mimika attended Berklee College of Music, followed by releasing her 2023 EP, Love and What I Thought It Was,” featuring “Sunday Afternoon.” Her follow-up tour of North America drew large crowds in Los Angeles, Nashville, Boston, and New York City, establishing her as a bravura live performer.
In 2024, Mimika dropped her EP, Space & Dust. With more than 2,000,000 collective streams, Mimika’s irresistible sound, a sound she calls “orchestral pop,” continues to attract more and more listeners, almost as if by magic.
“Elevator” rolls out on emerging, shimmering tones topped by Mimika’s lusciously evocative vocals. As the harmonics elevate and take on a contagious mid-tempo rhythm, the melody expands with color, texture, and resonance. A dazzling, braying saxophone imbues the tune with soaring flair as Mimika’s voice spirals upward.
Wonderfully wrought, “Elevator” blends pop and big-band ambiance into a melody that levels up to a compelling earworm of a song.
