Need for Speed: Rivals PS4

A somewhat hidden Online Service Shutdown page on the EA website has revealed that the servers for PS4 launch title Need for Speed: Rivals will be turned off this October.

The online servers shall be deactivated on 7th October 2025, meaning any online functionality will no longer work in the game afterwards. In contrast to ANTHEM, which EA is also shutting down, Need for Speed: Rivals does at least have an offline, single player component where you can compete against AI bots.

A PS3 version was also released, but it’s not listed on the Online Service Shutdown page at the time of writing.

The game blended the experiences of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Need for Speed: Most Wanted by making you choose between being a racer or a cop in an open world setting. We found the launch game to be fun enough at the time, awarding it a 7/10 and concluding: “The clever competitive dynamic at the core of the open world excursion augments the experience with a white-knuckle tension which ensures that outrunning your opponents, either online or offline, is entertaining at all times.”

Though, after 7th October, your open world will be permanently filled with AI racers and cops instead of real players.
