Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is trying to prove that he’s really got what it takes to play in the NFL. Williams, who is in his second year, took some snaps in the Bears’ final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Friday, Aug. 22.
Williams, with less than four minutes left in the first quarter and Kansas City up 10-0, took a snap and kept looking for an open player downfield. But Williams managed to hold onto the ball for what seemed to be an eternity.
He looked stuck in the pocket while looking right, then left, for an open man. Williams eventually moved to his left, only to get tackled after a short gain. NFL fans watching the game were merciless in their criticism of Williams.
Why Were NFL Fans Upset at Bears’ Caleb Williams?
Many fans took to X to express their displeasure. One fan simply wrote, “He’s so dumb lol”.
Another fan recalled Williams’ time playing college football at USC. This fan wrote, “He could get away with it in college but this the NFL”.
For this fan, the person referenced former Bears offensive coordinator Shane Waldron while bringing Bears head coach Ben Johnson into the conversation. The fan wrote on X, “Shane Waldron was the problem Ben Johnson will be the savior”.

Some fans looked forward to having quarterback Tyson Bagent take over running the Bears’ offense at some point. This fan wrote, “Johnson has Bagent starting by week 5”.
As for this NFL fan, a three-word message might be directed toward the Bears’ coaching staff. The person simply wrote, “kid still garbage”.

Some even predicted the number of sacks that Williams might endure in Chicago’s first regular-season game. This fan chirped up and wrote, “10 sacks minimum week 1 please”. Another Bears fan apparently found three words to just repeat over and over again when watching Williams and wrote, “Bad bad bad”.
For this fan, the person might have been referencing Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy. They wrote on X, “JJ can’t be worse….” Would Bears fans want the team to consider a trade for McCarthy? With Williams’ sack on Friday night, that chatter might pick up.
Finally, one fan decided to put their on-camera response to seeing Williams get lost in the pocket on X. The person’s comment? “F**kin crying yo”.
It’s unclear if the fans will keep their heat on Williams entering the regular season. Fantasy players might want more data on him before the season really starts. Seeing him stagger in the pocket against the Chiefs, though, did not sit well with fans one bit.
