This improved protection against liquids and scratches can be attributed to the smooth and apparently waterproof coating. However, this construction has two disadvantages. First, the coating does not extend all the way to the edge of the back, so liquid can penetrate and leave permanent stains where the fabric meets the plastic frame. Second, this coating can wear down over time.
